Imphal, October 30 2023:
Noting that internally displaced (ID) students are facing serious inconveniences in commuting to educational institutions from relief camps, Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has urged the school/colleges authorities to make hostel arrangement for such students without levying admission and monthly mess fees.
In a release, KSA suggested sanctioning some amount from College Development fund to cover the expenses for hostel admission and mess fees for the violence-affected students.
It would be both inhumane and disgraceful for the institutions concerned to charge hostel admission and monthly mess fees from the displaced students under the pretext that the Directorate of Higher Education made no mention about it, it maintained.
Even though a sum of Rs 10,000 was given to displaced undergraduate students staying in relief camp under Chief Minister's College Students Rehabilitation Scheme, 2023, the students are facing financial issues in purchasing uniform and study materials, KSA pointed out, while urging authorities concerned to mitigate the problems faced by the displaced students putting up in relief camps.
