AR pays tribute, foils smuggling bid, trains NCC girls

Troopers of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) conducted a wreath laying ceremony' to pay homage to brave heart rifleman (GD) KR Thangkhul of 4 Assam Rifles, who laid down his life on October 28, 1968 while retaliating an insurgent ambush.
On the other hand, Assam Rifles foiled a major smuggling attempt on Sunday when around 42 tonnes of areca nuts valued at approximately Rs 16.80 crore loaded in six trucks were seized along with six individuals v'ho were drivers in Chandrakhong area of Thoubal district.
The apprehended individuals along with the seized items and vehicles have been handed over to Forest Department, Thoubal district for further legal proceedings, informed PRO IGAR (S) in a release.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles is imparting training to 90 NCC girl cadets of St Joseph College, Ukhrul since October 27 as part of their annual institutional training camp organised by the 65th Manipur Girls Battalion, the PRO informed.
As part of the Camp, the cadets have been imparted comprehensive training on drill and tent pitching.
Further, lectures were conducted enlightening the cadets about the importance of discipline, hard work and various opportunities available to them for pursuing careers in the Armed Forces, the PRO added.
