Pig farm in Kamjong identified as ASF epicentre

Kamjong, October 30 2023:
The pig farm of Honmi Athary (Chandrakhong, Shungriphai) in Kamjong district has been declared as the epicentre of the African Swine Fever (ASF) .
The Deputy Commissioner Kamjong in a notification dated October 24 also stated the need to declare areas of Kamjong as controlled areas for ASF with immediate effect to effectively prevent, control and eradicate the scheduled disease.
As per the provisions of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animals Act, 2009, it has been notified that all areas within 1 kilometre radius from the pig farm as the infected zone and all areas within 10 kilometre radius from the pig farm as the surveillance zone.
The notification further strictly prohibited movement of pigs (dead or alive), movement and sale of pork and feed within the infected zone and materials that could have contacted the infected or suspected to be infected animals.
It has also been notified that culling of all infected pigs shall be done with proper information to the Veterinary Officer and Animal Husbandry Department by following proper protocols and all equipment/tools as well as vehicles used in the farm that have pigs either infected or suspected to be infected shall be restricted from movement without following proper protocols.
Any person (s) who contravene the provisions of the Act or obstruct the competent officer in performing duties under the Act shall be held guilty of an offence and punishable under the Act, added the notification.
