Kuki women demand withdrawal of CDOs

Imphal, July 14 2023:
Large number of women belonging to the Kuki community staged protest demanding removal of Manipur police commando personnel from Moreh.
Kuki from different localities of the border town congregated in front of Moreh police commando post from 9am Friday and demanded removal of the commandos and grant of separate administration for Kukis.
They also held several placards highlighting their demands.
To prevent unwanted incident, Assam Rifles and BSF troopers deployed in the border town main tained vigil.
Due to the protest, Teng noupal SP was unable to move outside and had to remain inside guest house located in the commando complex.
The protestors later dispersed after submitting a memorandum to ADC Moreh.
During the protest reportedly organised by Kuki Inpi, Moreh, the agitators shouted slogans, demanded that the commandos be withdrawn immediately, accused the commandos of killing two students in Moreh on May 3 and that the lives of innocents were under threat due to their presence.
According to local sources, the protest was inter cepted by the Assam Rifles, who parked a heavy vehicle at the gate of the police sta-tion to prevent any violence.
The protesters remained at the police station for several hours but eventually dispersed peacefully.
It was for the second time that protest was staged in the border town against deploy -ment of the commandos.
On July 7, the Kuki Women Union and Human Rights Moreh organised a peaceful sit-in protest at the New Moreh playground.
Friday's protest was held after two police commandos from the Moreh police station were attacked by armed miscreants on July 12 .
