Manipur for 36 indigenes, not outsiders: Lup

Raising strong objection against the demand for separate Kukiland at the alleged behest of Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, drug lords and illegal immigrants, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur said that Manipur is for the 36 indigenous communities but not for outsiders, who crossed the border illegally.
Addressing a press meet at its office here on Friday, Poirei Leimarol president L Memchou-bi said that the May 3 rally in Churachandpur was overrun by armed Kuki militants under SoO agreement and they cleansed out Meetei community from the district and adjoining areas by burning their houses.
Unfortunately, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is remaining silent as if Manipur is not part of the country.
It is an undisputable fact that sportspersons of Manipur have been bringing fame and laurels for the country.

silence on the issue then it would be construed that he is not averse to the demand for restoration of Manipur's erstwhile sovereign status, she said.
Maintaining that Kuki militants under SoO agreement, drug lords and illegal immigrants instigated the Manipuri Kukis to raise the demand for a separate Kukiland, she said that such an outrageous demand is unacceptable.
Manipur belongs to the 36 indigenous communities but not to the outsiders, who entered the state illegally, the president asserted.
She also raised concern on the status of displaced children, who are still in need of textbooks, study materials and space for study despite the government's assurance for admission in nearby schools for ensuring continuance of education.
She demanded the government to confine the SoO militants in their respective designated camps so that the crisis could be brought under control and peace restored.
Building temporary houses is not the solution.
Instead, the government should take up measures to ensure their safe return to their homes and help them rebuild their houses and lives as well.
Memchoubi also said that people of the state can never accept bifurcation of Manipur under any circumstances.
She also decried lack of commitment on the part of the government to put an end to the violence.
Maintaining that the huge number of central security forces have failed to control the violence, Memchoubi demanded the government to send them back and empower the state forces to control the situation.
