Meiraba to lead AIU at 31st World University Games badminton

Imphal, July 14 2023:
Manipur's ace shuttler Maisnam Meiraba Luwang has been picked to lead Association of Indian Universities' (AIU) badminton team at the 31st World University Games 2023 due to be held from July 28 to August 8 in Chengdu, China.
Meiraba is the first from the North East to be handed the honour to lead the team at the prestigious multi-sports world event.
He will participate in both the team and individual events at the games.
Notably, the games is a qualifying competition for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Association of Indian Universities is sending a strong contingent of 335 athletes who will participate in 12 disciplines viz-Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Fencing, Judo, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Wushu and Volleyball.
China's President Xi Jinping is expected to open the event at Dong'an Lake Sports center, Chengdu, China and athletes from 268 countries will take part in the 18-discipline games organised under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) .
