Discourse calls for resignation of 50 MLAs

All Manipur Nupi Marup organised a one-day open discussion on 'Manipur gi Wathok Athubada Loisillu (Solve Manipur Violence at the earliest)' at Manipur Press Club here Friday.
During the discussion, a resolution was adopted to urge the 50 MLAs to resign as the central and state governments have failed to contain the violence even after 70 days.
The discussion was attended by Manipur Human Rights Commission ex-acting chairman Khaidem Mani; CPI National Executive member Dr M Nara; Sanaleibak edi .

Speaking at the discourse, Nupi Marup general secretary Lairenjam Sumatibala opined that failure of central and state governments to solve the unrest situation is root cause for the death of over 150 people, many unaccounted for and displacement of thousands.
However, instead of taking action to solve the crisis, there is continuous infiltration of Myanmar-based militants into the state, not to mention random violation of SoO ground rules by Kuki militants including attacking and killing civilians.
The central government should take control of these militants and confine them to designated camps.
In addition, illegal foreigners must be deported to their respective countries, she demanded, adding that once such actions are taken up, the gunfights will cease on its own.
Sumatibala also stressed the need for involvement of external affairs and defence ministries with regard to infiltration of foreign terrorists into the state.
Meanwhile, various resolutions adopted during the discussion.
They include for the ruling and opposition to work together curb the violence'; CM Biren to clarify if he is unable to convene an Assembly sessions; for the 50 MLAs to resign since both the central and state govern ments fail to end the violence even afier 70 days; not to effect arrests or registration of FIRs; protection of Manipur's territorial integrity; no separate administration; launch 'Jail Thanhallo (court arrest)' movement; withdrawal of internet ban; and for implementation of NRC in Manipur before executing the delimitation exercise/programme in 2026' .
