Income-generating programmes launched for relief camp inmates: DC Thoubal

Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal Ahanthem Subhas Singh, IAS along with District Nodal Officer, Relief & Disaster Management A Shivadas Sharma, MCS visited four relief camps in Thoubal district today.
A total of 1112 inmates are taking shelter in these camps.
Speaking to media persons, DC Thoubal said that under the initiative of District Administration, various income generating programmes like candle-making, incense-stick making, mushroom production and 'kauna craft' have been launched for the inmates in the relief camps.
Stating that the camp at Kodompokpi Sports Complex has already started the production of candles under the brand name "Yening", he said that training for 'kauna craft' have also been given to the inmates of Rice Research Station Khangabok, Wangbal.

District Nodal Officer A Shivadas Sharma said that the Agriculture and Sericulture Departments have been tied up for hiring of manpower on daily wage basis from the relief camps.
Inmates are also hired by local farmers for agricultural activities, he added.
As a part of the initiatives taken up by the Government, Manipur Society for Skill Development has started 'Relief Camp Skill Aspiration Survey' of the inmates for trade identification and training programmes.
Distribution of Special Job Cards under MGNREGA has begun for the identified inmates.
He further said that full security arrangements have been provided to the relief camps.
Further, partition of halls at Kodompokpi Sports Complex has been initiated by the District Administration for family wise accommodation.
He added that for the first phase, 42 families will be allotted separate rooms at this Complex.
He also said that about 99 inmates from Heirok Higher Secondary School will be shifted to Kodompokpi Sports Complex within two or three days.
Meanwhile, inmates at the relief camp expressed happiness at the launching of various programmes by the District Administration to generate their income.
Some inmates stated that they got some relief from the ongoing crisis by engaging in activities like candle, incense making and 'kauna craft' etc.
AC to DC K Lenin Singh also accompanied the team on the relief camp site visit.
