WKZIC missive under scanner, FIR filed against JSB

Taking serious view of the statement issued by World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) on October 24 through different media including social media platform like Whatsapp groups, the home department has instructed DGP Manipur to take up necessary preventive and precautionary measures along with robust response mechanism in place.
The home department's directive to DGP comes after WKZIC's statement on October 24 called upon Kuki Zo people in Manipur to be prepared for an intense offensive beginning from November month and even asked people to stock rations.
In a directive to DGP Manipur, commissioner (home) T Ranjit Singh said that the content of the WKZIC statement is likely to aggravate the prevailing law and order crisis in the state and told the DGP to verify authenticity of the WKZIC statement at the earliest and stop any further spread of such materials in any media.
Further, the DGP has been instructed to take up necessary legal action against any culprits involved in such acts and also to take up necessary actions for strengthening intelligence inputs.
The directive further told the DGP to ensure all necessary preventive and precautionary measures are in place along with robust response mechanism in order to avoid any untoward incident.
The matter may be treated as most important and urgent, the directive said and copies of the same have been sent to secretary to CM, chief secretary, ADGP (intelligence) and overall operational commander, all DMs and SPs of all districts and security advisor Kuldiep Singh.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur police station has registered a suo moto FIR against the Joint Students' Body (JSB), Churachandpur district in response to their unauthorised renaming of institutions and places, as well as declaration of every Friday as a holiday for all government offices and institutions, including educational establishments.
On October 26, JSB circulated a press statement through various media channels, including social media and WhatsApp Groups renaming institutions and places, and also declaring every Friday as a holiday for all government offices and institutions.
An official notification issued by the Chief Secretary pointed out that the content of the statement could worsen the existing law and order situation in the state.
The deliberate attempt to rename institutions and places, coupled with the announcement of observing every Friday as a holiday for all government institutions, including the offices of DCs/SPs/ZEO/ADCs, government schools/colleges in Churachandpur district is a matter of concern, the notification reiterated.
The act of spreading messages, circulating materials, press releases, or public notices that threaten communal harmony, peaceful coexistence, internal and national security is taken very seriously by the state government.
The government is addressing this issue with the utmost sensitivity and is taking all necessary steps to bring the culprits involved to justice under the relevant provisions of the law.
Intelligence gathering efforts have been intensified, and Churachandpur Police Station has registered a suo-motu FIR (No 2823(10)2023 CCP-PS) under sections 186/341/189/506 IPG against the members of the Joint Students' Body.
In this light, the chief secretary urged general public, including all public functionaries not to rely on such posts, materials, press releases, or public notices that have been unlawfully generated and disseminated through various media.
They are also advised not to engage in any form of unwanted acts of violence.
