In connection with International Women s Day, Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch organised a health screening programme for vendors of Ima Market under the theme of 'Emashing bu shak khangba matam oire', at Ema Keithel, here, on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Health Services director Dr O Sanahanbi as chief guest, IMA Manipur State Branch president Dr RK Lenin Singh as president, while secretary Dr James Elangbam, WDW-IMA Manipur State Branch chairperson Dr Kh Ranjana Devi and IMA part president Dr Shyamkumar were present guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Sanahanbi said that the status of women is improving day by day.
In the state's context, the courage and bravery of Manipur women are known all over the world.
The famed all-women Ima Market, the Meira Paibi movement, prowess in sports and culture, and the role by women right from the market space to government departments to higher seats of power is laudable.
All women are mothers and they play an important role in the development of a family and society, she conveyed.
In his speech, Dr RK Lenin said that we must not forget our mothers when we are happy or tired.
No matter the difficultly, we must work hard with the hope of doing something for our mothers.
He continued that everyone seems to ignore the immense burden carried by women such as taking care of the family and other aspects.
Only when one steps into a woman s shoes, can they truly understand the struggles faced by women.
We do not give ample respect to women, who truly deserve every bit of it, he stressed, while adding that man cannot replace the role play by women, whether in peace or conflict.
