Winning, losing does not matter in sports: CM

A blessing ceremony of Manipur state contingent which would be participating in the 37th Goa National Games, 2023 was held at the CM's secretariat, here on Sunday, with Chief Minister N Biren handing over the Manipur Olympic Association's flag to the Chef-De-Mission Bobby Waikhom, who is also the commissioner of youth affairs and sports.
The event was organised by Manipur Olympic Association.
All together 560 people, including 406 players (180 males and 226 females), 76 coaches, 56 team managers and 22 MOA officials and others, will be representing the state in the upcoming 37th Goa National Games, 2023 which is scheduled to be held from October 25 to November 9 .
Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren praised the players and said that they have been bringing laurels for the state at different national and international events thus holding a big spot in the field of games and sports in the world.
He further appreciated local clubs and other associations for their efforts in grooming players at the grassroots level.
He also appreciated the role of the Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) department, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) for various achievements in games and sports.
The chief minister maintained that winning or losing is not the main thing that matters to a player, but what matters is giving their best performance in the field.
By giving best performances, one can achieve the goal, he said.
He expressed hope that the Manipur team would bag more medals this time.
Out of 48 disciplines for which athletes would be competing in the upcoming National Games, athletes from the State would be participating in 26 disciplines.
The chief minister advised the contingent to maintain unity and discipline under the super vision of the Chef-De-Mission, as they are going as a team to represent Manipur.
The chief minister said discipline is very important to achieve success, and wished the state contingent all the best.
Biren further informed that he himself and YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam were invited by the Chief Minister of Goa for the event.
However, considering the current law and order situation in the state, he would not go, as he cannot leave the state for even a while.
YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam encouraged the players to give their best performance so as to recreate the history by bagging the overall team champion's title in the national games held in the state.
Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar, officials of sports department, MOA, coaches and players also attended the programme.
