'Iodine Therapy ' facility available at Babina AOI

For the first time in the state, a 'Radioactive Iodine Therapy' centre at American Oncology Institute at Babina Specialty Hospital Imphal was inaugurated by health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan on Saturday.
The inaugural function was presided over by Babina Group of Hospital managing director Dr Thangjam Dhabali was also attended by health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan as chief guest and Health Services Manipur director Dr Oinam Sana-hanbi Devi as guest of honour.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Sapam Ranjan pointed out that cancer rate in Manipur is very high.
Moreover, the rate of communicable diseases among the people of Manipur is also high.
As such, the government initiated 'Health for all' scheme to identify health issues faced in every family.
Highlighting the importance of early detection of every illness including cancer, he stated that the government is providing health benefits to the people under CMHT and PMJAY schemes.
Pointing out that the private hospitals are playing a major role in serving the people, Dr Ranjan lauded the initiative taken up by Babina Specialty hospital as it will bring a new change in treatment of thyroid cancer patients in the state.
Dr Dhabali informed that thyroid cancer is one of the most of common diseases among woman.
After breast cancer, lungs cancer and cervical cancer, thyroid cancer topped as the fourth most common cancer among woman.
He continued that 'Radioactive Iodine Therapy' which is essential for treatment of thyroid cancer could not be done in Manipur previously.
So, patients need to go to Guwahati or other states like Delhi, Mumbai for treatment of thyroid cancer.
Now, people can get treatment in the state without going to other states which will in turn reduce the expenditure for treatment outside the state.
Dr Dhabali further stated that American Oncology Institute at Babina Specialty Hospital, Imphal was established in September, 2020 and has successfully treated 21,000 patients since its establishment.
Out of the total patients, 1,800 were treated under CMHT and 900 under PMJAY.
He revealed that the hospital will set up 'Bone Marrow transplant' centre at the earliest and it will surely get recognised by National Accreditation Board of Hospital in near future.
