22nd Great June Uprising Unity Day observed

Imphal, June 18 2023: All Manipur United Clubs' Organ-isation (AMUCO) and United Commit-tee Manipur (UCM) jointly observed the 22nd The Great June Uprising Unity Day at Kekrupat on Sunday.

The observance commenced early morn-ing with the hoisting of a flag by the pres-idents of UCM and AMUCO, followed by general salute from Apunba Manipur Hui-yen Lanlong and UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam and AMUCO president Nando Luwang leading families of the martyrs and the public in offering floral tributes.

Speaking on the occasion, Observa-tion Committee chairman and AMUCO president Nando Luwang informed that although this year's observance was held in a low key manner, the respect towards the martyrs remains unchanged.

He con-tinued that the observance is not about one single community but as a stand against all threats to the integrity of Manipur.

The government of India has been scheming to disintegrate Manipur for ages.

However, the people have always stood firm, much to the dismay of the government.

While condemning alleged apathetic disposition of the central government when countless civilians are being killed by Kuki militants in violation of the ground rule of SoO, Nando asserted that the people act accordingly if the government continues to threaten the governance of Manipur.

He then urged the Kuki brethren not to be influenced by armed groups from Myanmar and appealed to them to exercise restraint in order to prevent the prevailing situation from worsening beyond repair.

"Our stand is to preserve the territo-rial integrity of Manipur, while that of the armed militants if to have their own separate government.

The Meiteis are not calling for preserving the integrity of their community but that of Manipur, which belongs to all the communities residing in it.

Thus, all the communities need to stand united against the Kuki militants from Myanmar and work together to save the state," he said.

Observation Committee vice chairman and UCM president Joychandra Konthou-jam said that UCM will not stay silent when Manipur is being threatened.

He further said that it is the responsibility of all of us to take a united stand against threats to the unity and integrity of Manipur.

Stating that the root cause of the on-go-ing violence in the state is due to the ag-gressive attempt of Chin-Kuki militants to establish a parallel government over the people of Manipur, Joychandra said that if the foreigners want to set up their own country, they are welcome to go to Mizoram or Myanmar but Manipur is off-limits.

He also termed as despicable that the government of India has been watching the escalating violence in the state as a bystander despite knowing the ins-and-outs of the entire situation.

Thus, it is condemnable of the Indian government to keep standing by, he said, while urging for solving the situation as soon as possible.
