Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra leaves Manipur

Imphal, January 15 2024: After brief stopovers at some places of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra being led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi crossed Manipur and made its way to Nagaland today.

The 6700 Kms long rally which would cover 110 districts and 15 States over a period of 66 days was flagged off from Khongjom, Thoubal district yesterday.

Day 2 of the yatra was flagged off from Sekmai at around 9 am today.

But the march from Sekmai onward was not participated by a single Meitei Congress leader.

Nonetheless, CWC Member Gaikhangam, MPCC working president Victor Keishing and other State Congress leaders took part in the march.

The yatra reached Kangpokpi at around 10 am .

The marchers led by Rahul Gandhi were received by a group of people shouting slogans like 'Welcome to Kukiland', 'We want separate administration' etc.

MPCC working president Manga Vaiphei, DCC members and BCC members too accorded a warm reception to Rahul Gandhi and the others.

There Rahul Gandhi got down from the bus, shook hands with the people and interacted with them for a few minutes.

Rahul Gandhi and some of his team members had tea and snacks at Kim Chow Hotel, a small hotel on the roadside at Kangpokpi town, adds our Kangpokpi correspondent.

The yatra reached Senapati district headquarters a little past 12 noon.

The Congress leader held a meeting for around 30 minutes with CSO leaders and intellectuals at Senapati public ground.

Rahul Gandhi and his followers had their lunch at Senapati before resuming the yatra at around 2 pm.

They reached Mao at around 5.30 pm.

Following a brief exchange of pleasantries with the Congress leaders who received them there, Rahul Gandhi and his team crossed Mao Gate into Nagaland.

In his brief address to the people along the Yatra here today, Rahul Gandhi said, the purpose of starting the Nyay Yatra from Manipur, was to send a powerful message across the country and make the people aware of what people of Manipur have been going through.

He said, he has been meeting a number of people and he can feel and understand their pain and tragedy they have gone through.

He said he understood what it meant to lose family members and property in the violence.

Gandhi hoped that the peace and harmony return to Manipur as soon as possible.

On the second day of the Nyay Yatra, Gandhi interacted with a cross section of people.

He regularly dismounted from the bus he is travelling in, to speak to people who were waiting for him on the roads with the Tricolor in their hands.

The Congress leader also marched on foot at several places and was joined by hundreds of party workers and common people.

He greeted them while a number of people clicked selfies with him.
