Imphal, January 15 2024:
Vehicular movement on Imphal-Yaingangpokpi road has resumed after hours of bandh imposed by womenfolk today.
The womenfolk of the area had imposed the blockade on the road after at least 15 women were hurt in an assault by Central Security forces at Sabungkhok Khunou yesterday at around 11 am.
The women spent the night on the road demanding removal of the Central security forces stationed at Sabungkhok Khunou.
While they refused to move out of the road, top police officials of the Imphal East including SP Ibomcha and Additional SP H Herojit came and talked with the women.
After the senior police officials assured that personnel of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) will be deployed in the area where Central security forces are stationed at, the womenfolk agreed to lift the blockade.
While the IRB personnel have not arrived yet, the womenfolk have opened the road to vehicles.
Notably, the womenfolk of Sabungkhok Khunou and adjoining areas protested the presence of the Central Security forces at a brick field at Sabungkhok Khunou.
They asserted that the Central Security Forces personnel had remained mute spectators even as Kuki militants fired on civilian settlements on many occasions.
The villagers demanded the Centre and the State Government to replace the Central Security forces in the region with State forces.
