Cabinet bats for reclaiming Koirengei Old Airfield

The state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister N Biren in Chandel district headquarters on Monday has resolved to exchange the Old Airfield in Koirengei, which is under the possession of ministry of defence, with a 130-acre land near Leimakhong Military Station.
The cabinet meeting held at the office of DC Chandel had discussion on 46 agendas, along with some unlisted.
Interacting with the media at his Lamphelpat residence here on Monday evening, IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that Old Airfield in Koirengei is under the possession of Ministry of Defence.
CM Biren had earlier hinted the government's interest to reclaim the plot keeping in view of the expansion of Imphal city.
Considering the emerging need, the cabinet approved exchange of the Old Airfield measuring 74.24 acres with an area of 130 acres in southwest of New Makha village adjacent to the boundary wall of Leimakhong military station.
The old airfield plot will be used for infrastructure projects, he said.
The cabinet also approved government jobs to next of kin of the five persons killed in the Lilong incident of January 1, and financial assistance to the 14 injured persons.
It also approved ex-gratia and government job to the next of kin of Chingakham Lamyanba, who was killed on December 31.The cabinet also approved appointment of different posts in home department, which include staff for Rajya Sainik Board, 1338 vacant posts of Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Havildar, Jemadar, riflemen and followers.
The minister further said that Monday's cabinet gave assent to Chief Minister's Farmers' Livelihood Support Scheme; recruitment of six agriculture officers and 48 assistant agriculture officers on contractual basis to fill up vacant posts; sign MoU with ministry of agriculture and farmers' welfare for implementing Agristack project.
Agristack Project is a digital foundation being set up by the government to make it easier to bring various stakeholders together to improve agriculture in India and enable better outcomes and results for the farmers by using data and digital services.
He also informed that the cabinet okayed Chief Ministers' Sportspersons Livelihood Guarantee Scheme, Chief Minister's Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme; declaration of recruitment results for anganwadi workers, helpers and mini anganwadi workers; relaxation of ban on recruitment in social welfare department; direct recruitment of vacant posts in art and culture department; relaxation of ban on direct recruitment and filling up 50 per cent of vacant posts in State Academy of Training; appointment of 13 posts in Manipur Information Commission; direct recruitment of vacant posts in election, tourism, minor irrigation, MOBEDS, planning, and general administration departments; engagement of 162 posts of different categories in State AYUSH Society; and filling up vacant sanctioned posts of assistant professor in the Dhanamanjuri University.
The cabinet further approved renaming Hun Festival, as included in the state holiday list as restricted holiday into Hun Thadou Cultural Festival, the minister added.
