Kakching, January 15 2024:
Thoubal District VDF Welfare Association has raised strong objection against the government's plan to recruit new VDF personnel and instead demanded suitable honorarium for the existing personnel.
In a statement, the association said that VDF personnel are carrying out their duties at par with police, MR and IRB in upholding law and order round the clock.
It also said that VDF personnel are used in every sphere such as security arrangements for WIPs, VIPs, residential guard for MLA & ministers, normal duty in police stations/outposts, deployment in foothill areas, destruction of illegal poppy cultivation, security of key government installations, and traffic control.
The association had raised demands to the chief minister to provide appropriate honorarium to the VDF personnel, on multiple occasions.
Acknowledging the contribution of the VDF personnel, the CM assured to do the needful, while seeking some more time citing poor financial position of the government.
However, they can no longer survive on the meagre honorarium, the statement said while seeking early enhancement of their honorarium.
Despite citing financial constraints for the delay in increasing of honorarium, the government is trying to recruit new VDF personnel, which hurts the sentiments of the existing personnel, the statement said while drawing attention of the government to enhance their honorarium before rolling out the recruitment plan.
