Imphal, January 15 2024:
Demanding removal of central forces from the brick field at Sabungkhok Khunou village under Lamlai assembly constituency, Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteers' Force has indefinitely shut down the Imphal-Yaingangpokpi road, which is a part of Imphal-Ukhrul road.
The village volunteers and local meira paibi came out in large number and blocked the road since early Monday morning.
With exception of vehicles related with education, religious activities and the media, passage of all other vehicles along the road stretch was halted.
Volunteers' Force commander-in-chief Y Bosan told media persons that they held discussion with the chief minister and other government authorities in connection with the unrest situation in the state and urged for bringing solution to the crisis.
As tension remains and the Meetei villages continue to face attacks despite deployment of central forces in the area there is no point in holding further meetings with the government authorities, he affirmed and suggested that, if at all authorities concerned are keen to stabilise the situation, they (authority concerned) should come and talk with the agitating public.
He also appealed to CSOs, clubs, organisations and meira paibi groups to extend cooperation to their agitation.
Y Bosan pointed out that despite stationing of central forces at the Sabungkhok Khunou brick field, Kuki militants continue to attack Meetei villages.
As such, meira paibi activists of the area carried out agitation on Sunday demanding removal of the central forces from the area during which security personnel resorted to using force and injured eight women.
One of them with serious injuries was taken to JNIMS for treatment.
Meanwhile, in a release, All Manipur Nupi Marup secretary L Sumatibala strongly condemned alleged act of brutality by personnel of 20th Jat regiment stationed at Sabungkhok Khunou on meira paibi.
Claiming that the Regiment personnel pelted bricks and stones on the womenfolk, she urged authority concerned to book those responsible for inflicting injuries to the women protestors.
