Students threaten DMU shut down

Denouncing inordinate delay in conducting the students' union election for the term 2023-24, under-graduate and post-graduate students of DM College of Arts, Science and Commerce, GP Women's College and LMS Law College, which are constituent colleges of DM University, staged protest on Monday and threatened to shut down the university if notification for conducting the union election is not issued within three days.
The students also locked down the A-Block of the university as part of the agitation.
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the protest, one Irom Dimochana expressed said that lack of initiative to conduct the election for the session 2023-24 is an attempt to abolish the union.
While cautioning that infringing on the democratic rights of the students and scheming to abolish the union will only lead to launch of intense agitations, he iterated that the students will be forced to shut down the whole university if notification for conducting the union election is not issued within three days.
