Assam Rifles commemorates 76th Army Day

In celebration of the 76th Army Day, which is done annually on January 15, Assam Rifles of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), embarked on a series of engaging activities across Manipur.
The day is observed to pay tribute to Lieutenant General Kodandera M Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, on his takeover on January 15, 1949, and honour the exceptional courage and selflessness of soldiers while defending the nation.
In Imphal, the celebrations commenced with flag hoisting ceremonies at Company Operation Bases situated in key locations, including Chingmeirong, Singjamei, Lilong, Thoubal, Somrei, and Nambol.
In Kakching district, Assam Rifles engaged with the local community through "Know Your Forces" campaigns, interactive sessions, camaraderie-building activities, and sports events in villages such as Phundrei, Kakching, U Thingkhangphai, and Berukhudam.
The commitment to community engagement continued with a motivational lecture at S Khollen village and a screening of the war movie "LOC Kargil" at Sangaikot village in Churachandpur district.
These activities aimed to emphasise the valour of soldiers and foster a sense of unity within the community.
Activities in Tengnoupal district focused on instilling unity, patriotism, and awareness.
This included a flag hoisting ceremony at St Peter's School, an educational lecture, a friendly football match in Kwatha, and active community engagement initiatives.
Assam Rifles also organised ex-servicemen meets, various sporting events, and extended goodwill gestures in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
These initiatives were aimed at fostering a strong bond between Assam Rifles and the local community, furthering the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect, informed a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) .
