Senapati, January 15 2024:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has appealed to Rahul Gandhi to voice the Indo-Naga political issue for an acceptable and honourable solution in the true spirit of the Framework Agreement signed on 3rd August, 2015 at New Delhi as well as for urgent restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The memorandum highlighted the Nagas' political aspiration for translation into political reality to ensure lasting and durable peace in the region.
Although it has been eight years since the Framework Agreement was signed, the agreement has run into a stalemate on the interpretation and accommodation of principle issues of Flag and Constitution.
The fate of the Agreement hangs in balance as the commitment of the Government of India fluctuates every now and then by refusing to acknowledge the core issues, said the memorandum.
Buying time through talks for further balkanization of Naga areas has been formulated by the incumbent dispensation of the Indian Government, it said.
Ng Lorho, president, UNC and Vareiyo Shatsang, general secretary, UNC appealed to the Congress leader to voice the Indo-Naga political issue for an early solution.
Besides the Indo-Naga political issue, the memorandum mentioned the present political dynamics of Manipur that has led to the total failure of State machinery.
The UNC leaders urged the Congress leader to a raise voice of protest for fixing such grievous situation with an iron hand in order to bring forth peace and restoration of normalcy in the turbulent State of Manipur.
