AMA plans Peace demonstration at Washington on June 22

The Association of Meiteis in the Americas (AMA) would be staging a peace demonstration at Lafayette Park, near the White House, Washington DC on June 22 .
The AMA has invited all concerned individuals, community leaders, and supporters to stand together in solidarity against the ongoing violence in Manipur, India � "our beloved birthplace and motherland" .
In the wake of the ongoing conflict that erupted on May 3rd, 2023, Manipur is facing an unprecedented crisis.
Tragically, more than 125 lives have been lost, while over 350 individuals have been injured.
The plight of over 50,000 displaced people seeking shelter in 350 relief camps is dire, with limited access to essential resources such as food, water, and healthcare, said a press statement issued by AMA.
The entire Manipuri population of 3.5 million lives in constant fear, anger, and anxiety about their future.
The violence persists, exacerbating the suffering and trauma experienced by the people.
"We strongly condemn the killing of Indian Meitei villagers and the burning of their homes, Hindu temples and Meitei churches by Kuki militants and their affiliated organizations.
As members of the global Meitei diaspora, we cannot remain passive while our roots are tarnished by bloodshed", it said.
The peace demonstration scheduled at Lafayette Park from 10 am to 5 pm (EST) of June 22 is not just a mere gathering but a powerful symbol of unity, compassion, and hope.
"We aim to create a platform where the voices of the oppressed are amplified, and the world can witness the resilience and determination of the Meitei community in the face of adversity.
This is an opportunity for us to call upon the international community, urging them to pay attention to the grave situation unfolding in Manipur", it said.
The AMA then appealed to every concerned individual, regardless of background, to join hands with them and show their support for peace and justice.
"We extend our invitation to leaders, activists, community organizations, and anyone who believes in the power of unity and wishes to make a difference.
Together, we can significantly impact and advocate for lasting changes and peace in Manipur", it said.
AMA is committed to pursuing a peaceful resolution in Manipur that upholds every individual's rights and dignity, it added.
On the other hand, as a mark of protest against the ongoing violence in Manipur, Manipuri people living in Hyderabad organised a sit-in protest under the aegis of Hyderabad Manipuri Society at Dharna Chowk Marg, Lower Tank Bund, Kavadiguda, Hyderabad, Telangana today.
