Kangpokpi, September 27 2023:
Taking strong exception to the exeption of areas under 19 police stations while extending AFSPA for six months in the State, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kangpokpi has asked the Government to declare entire valley districts as "disturbed area." Barring areas under the jurisdiction of 19 police stations, the Manipur Government on Wednesday declared the entire State as a 'disturbed area' in light of the prevailing law and order situation.
Censuring the notification of the Home Department on extending AFSPA, CoTU, in a statement, stated that the State Government deliberately excluded the nineteen police station areas of the valley districts from the purview of AFSPA to avoid criticism from the people.
CoTU also termed the notification as "irresponsible" .
The Union Home Ministry must realize that the cause of the current violence is the withdrawal of disturbed area status from the jurisdiction of the nineteen police station of the valley districts, CoTU claimed.
The Committee then appealed to the Union Home Ministry to instruct the State to declare all valley areas as "disturbed" .
