Imphal, September 27 2023:
Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee (DMCC) met with some members of Youth of Manipur (YoM) on September 24 in New Delhi.
In a release, DMCC informed that continuing its commitment to extend support and solidarity to any individual or civil society organisation from Manipur coming to Delhi to raise their democratic concerns, members of YOM were welcomed by the committee.
YOM members are in Delhi to pressurise Manipur's MLAs currently camping in the national capital for help in restoring peace in Manipur, it added.
DMCC tried to help them with food and accommodation; but were politely declined.
Such a decision shows the uniqueness of their protest, i.e., rejecting comfort until their goal has been achieved and to function independently, it lauded, while adding that as part of its good will gesture, DMCC facilitated their meeting with the 17 MLAs who are stationing at Manipur Bhawan, to press for restoration of peace and protection of Manipur's territorial and administrative integrity.
Members of DMCC also met the MLAs separately and demanded that Suspension of Operation (SOO) agreement between Kuki militants and government be abrogated; enforce rule of law in both the hills and the valley; all the MLAs should take a collective stand on scrapping SoO and protecting Manipur's territorial and administrative integrity.
The MLAs assured that the concerns would be placed before the Chief Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister.
They also said that efforts are on to bring peace in Manipur, the release conveyed.
