Imphal, September 27 2023:
Condemning the murder of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi in cold blood, the State unit of BJP has appealed to the security forces to refrain from using excessive action while controlling student protesters.
Addressing the media at Nityaipat Chuthek today, BJP State unit president A Sarda Devi said that she felt devastated on seeing the photos of the two innocent students which were taken while they were in captivity and after murdering them by Kuki militants.
Saying that the BJP condemns the murder of the students in the most inhumane way, she continued that the party (BJP) will support all the democratic and non-violent protests taken out by the people against the murder.
Thousands of students have been protesting against the cold blooded murder of Phijam Hemanjit and Linthoingambi Hijam by Kuki militants since yesterday, Sarda said and added that she understands the pain and anguish of the people.
The BJP also shares the pain and sorrow of the bereaved families, she added.
Stating that the party has been working to restore normalcy in Manipur and to keep the relations between the people and the Government on good terms, Sarda said that they will mount strong pressure on the relevant authorities to arrest and penalise those who kidnapped and murdered the two students.
Appealing to the Central and State security forces to exercise restraint while controlling the protesting students, the BJP leader urged the security forces to exercise their authority in a similar way in both hill and valley districts.
