Imphal, September 27 2023:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has accused the Central Government of treating the people of Manipur like an outsider.
COCOMI, in a statement, said that it was the failure of the Centre and the State Government to act on time which provoked the people and the students to protest against the murder of two Meetei students by the Kuki terrorists.
It is time for the people to assess the tactics of Kuki narco-terrorists who have been scheming to divert the issue in Manipur by creating other issues, COCOMI said.
Claiming that the Rapid Action Force firing rubber bullets, tear gas shells, smoke bombs against the students in uniform on the pretext of controlling mob and injuring several students in the process is a part of their policy to wipe out Meeteis, the Committee alleged that the India still don't take Meetei as bonafide citizens of the country and the same can be seen clearly in the conduct of the Central forces.
"The clip where a RAF personnel was heard saying "Apna aadmi nahi hai, kuch bhi jaro" which roughly translates as "It's not our people do whatever you like" while giving command to their personnel has been circulated widely on social media", the Committee said and asked the Government to take action against the rogue personnel who used harsh language against the Meeteis.
Urging the Government to take action against other security personnel who used brute force in controlling the students too, COCOMI said that it would be clear how the Indian Government sees Meeteis as if they fail to penalise the erring RAF personnel.
Central forces flexing their muscle on students in uniform and pulling out people from their homes and thrashing them for protesting against the murder of innocent students is not a trait of the largest democracy but shameful and a violation of human rights, the Committee asserted.
Meanwhile, COCOMI appealed to all political leaders to stop at once forming new organisations to dilute the movement of the people just to secure their chair and take political mileage.
The State Government has been acting like Manipur is a colonial State of India as the elected representatives don't act without the instruction of the Centre, it said and added that true leaders, however, should work to secure the future of the coming generations instead of engaging in petty politics.
