Awareness camp on alternative farming held

A day-long village level awareness camp on 'Alternative Farming System for Tribals' was organised by Eastern Border Areas Development Authority (EBADA), Manipur at Phange village in Kamjong district on Tuesday.
The inaugural function of the camp was attended by agriculture officer (Horticulture and Soil Conservation) Paodumai Seisou Khozii and EBADA project director N Loyalakpa as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Loyalakpa informed that essential materials to replace jhum cultivation and check deforestation in the hill districts are being provided under the initiative of chief minister N Biren, who is also the EBADA chairman since 2016-17.Under the EBADA project, village level awareness camps on sustainable and conventional methods of farming are being carried out with subject experts engaged to conduct training at the grassroots level, he said, while adding that since lemon farming can be successfully carried out in Phange village, EBADA has facilitated construction and installation of farm house, solar lamps, green house and water reservoir so as to increase the yield of lemon.
As a part of awareness camp attended by around 100 farmers, N Loyalakpa, Paodumai Seisou Khozii and other technical officers of EBADA visited the lemon farm at Phange village and interacted with the farmers.
