Sensitization programme on women's issues held

In connection with International Women's Day, Lions Club of Imphal, Lions International District 322D and Nirvana Foundation, Manipur jointly organised a sensitization programme on women's issues under "One Multiple One Activity of Lions Multiple 322'' at the Service Centre of the Club in Sangaiprou, Imphal.
The function was attended by Dr W Gopimohan, Immediate Past District Governor, District 322D and H Manikumar Singh, Past District Governor, District 322D as presidium members, said a release issued by Lions Club of Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr T Bilashini Devi, District Chairperson, Breast & Cervical Cancer, District 322D gave a lecture on the topic, "Care for Her".
Dr T Bilashini emphasized on the need for women to maintain good menstrual hygiene for leading a healthy life.
She continued that almost 40% of cases of cancer among women is breast and cervical cancer.
"If early and periodic screening of breast and cervical cancer is done along with appropriate treatment, there is a very high chance of full recovery", said Dr T Bilashini while adding that a healthy life, especially of a woman, requires a healthy social, mental and environmental condition.
Shreema Ningombam, Assistant Professor (Political Science), Nambol L Sanoi College delivered a lecture on this year's International Women's Day theme, "Inspire Inclusion".
She said that the main objective of celebrating International Women's Day by the United Nations is to reduce gender inequality and end the discrimination arising out of that inequality.
She also asserted that providing psychological, moral and social investment to women is a basic human right issue and for this, gender responsive budgeting is required.
"Superficially, in our society it might appear that women have a role in decision making, but if we look deeply, they are excluded from the process.
Hence the need for inclusion of women in decision making will bring about their true empowerment", she added.
Dr W Gopimohan expressed that Lions Multiple 322 has been taking up the One Multiple One Activity project, related to International Women's Day every year on different themes and many clubs under the multiple are taking up projects to benefit women.
H Manikumar spoke about the history of Lions Club and its various focused activities being taken up world-wide.
Sobhana Sorokhaibam said that over the years, the Nirvana Foundation has been working for the welfare of less privileged women, girl children and transgenders.
