CHAMP crowned champions of MNCA Elite Tournament
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, April 10 2023: CHAMP Cricket Club (Khagempalli) became the champions of the 7th MNCA W Prahlada & W Ramananda Elite Tournament 2022-23 after beating PTRC (Patsoi Part IV) by 56 runs at Luwang-pokpa Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Electing to bat, CHAMP didn't have much going their way in the innings.

The batters struggled to make big scores as the Khagempalli side managed 155/8 in their 40 overs.

Nongthombam Gulson emerged as the batter with the most runs in their innings with 31 off 54 balls, followed by Lairenjam Ansh (28), Leikhram Johny (24), both Md Sultan Karim and Thingbaijam Nicholson scored 20, Nitesh Sedai (14), Moi-rangthem Thomas (7), Mohd Ahsanul Kabir (4 not out) and Narsingh Yadav (2) .

For PTRC, Jotin Pheiroi-jam, Bishworjit Konthoujam and Khaidem Joyraj picked up two wickets each .while Chingakham Bidash and Rohit Sharma Aribam took one each.

Despite their not-so-con-vincing innings total, CHAMP's bowlers rose to the occasion by skittling out PTRC for 99 in 27.3 overs to clinch a convincing 56-run win in their summit clash.

A quality bowling by CHAMP sent PTRC into complete disarray as the latter's first four batters could only muster 28 runs combined and efforts by the lower order with Gemson Mutum (25) and Chingakham Bidash (20) being the only notable contributors were of little help in the Patsoi side's run chase.

The Khagempalli squad's trio of Mohd Ahsanul Kabir, Nitesh Sedai and Thingbaijam Nicholson finished with two scalps apiece as Md Sultan Karim bagged one.

On the other hand, PTRC's other run-getters in their dismal rim chase were Loitongbam Shitaljit (16), Jotin Pheiroijam (8), deepak (6 not out), Khaidem Joyraj (6), Ngariyanbam Jameson (4) and Rohit Sharma (2 not out) .

Courtesy of their title triumph, CHAMP pocketed a prize money of Rs 2,20,000 plus a trophy while PTRC received Rs 1,70,000 with a trophy.

CHAMP also walked away with three of the four individual prizes on offer as Md Sultan Karim won both the man of the series and highest wicket taker titles while Thingbaijam Nicholson was adjudged the man of the final match for his two wickets and 20 runs.

Sultan Karim earned his double honours for his 282 runs and 34 wickets in 11 innings over the course of the tournament.

PTRC's Pheiroijam Jotin claimed the highest run-scor-er award for his 452 runs in 11 innings.
