Tribal leader K Zou no more, ATSUM condoles

Prominent tribal leader Kamchinpau Zou, popularly known as K Zou, passed away on April 8 in New Delhi after prolonged illness.
His mortal remains were laid to rest on Easter Sunday at his home town Churachandpur.
K Zou was 57 .
K Zou was advisor of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) and president of All India Tribal Students' Association (AITSA) till his last breath.
He was also the founding member of National Students' Union of India, Churachandpur district unit (1984-85), advisor of North East Students' Federation, Delhi (1989) and Manipur Students' Association, Delhi (1988); convener of North Eastern Lawyers' Forum Delhi (2003), Mongoloid Peoples' Forum, Delhi and Adivasi Sangarh Samiti, Delhi; and coordinator of Forum of Minority Youth for Secularism, Delhi.
K Zou, who was also an advocate and worked in Delhi courts, had contested the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Election in 2014 on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket.
Some of K Zou's major initiatives and achievements include appointment as liaison officer to look after the welfare of SC/ST students at Delhi University for the first time in 1994, enrolling employees/students from the North East region in the electoral roll of Delhi, relaxation of 5 percent marks from the existing 55 percent eligibility for appearing in the UGC-NET examination for SC/ST candidates in the year 1994, accomplishing the appointment of candidates from North East (Manipur) in the post of teaching for the first time at the University of Delhi in 1994, restoring reservation for STs in employment after it was done away with by the Government of Delhi in 1996, etc.
Meanwhile, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur has expressed deep condolences on the sudden demise of K Zou and offered its deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
ATSUM also prayed for the comfort of the bereaved family and loved ones.
Many other tribal organisations including KSO-GHQ and its federating units have also expressed their heartfelt condolences over the demise of K Zou.
