Student bodies convene public meet on NRC

Six student bodies namely AIMS, DESAM, KSA, MSF, SUK and another, would be organising a public convention on updating National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state on Wednesday (April 12) at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, here.
Announcing this in a press meet at MSF's Kwakeithel officer, here, on Monday, SUK president Ningthoujam Dhanakumar said that leaders of tribal student bodies like ANSAM will also attend the convention apart from other CSO leaders.
The convention will discuss issues being faced by the state due to infiltration and settlement of illegal immigrants and how they are indulging in anti-social activities including mass deforestation and illegal poppy cultivation.
The convention is part of the demand for updating NRC in the state raised by student bodies as well as many CSOs as a solution to the influx of illegal immigrants and identifying them, he said, while adding that NRC is the need of the hour to protect the indigenous people of the state.Resolutions adopted at the convention will be submit ted to the state government and further public movement will be organised based on the resolutions, he said and appealed to CSQ leaders and leaders of student bodies to participate in the convention.
