State gains 1.5 point in energy efficiency index

Union minister of power and new & renewable energy RK Singh released the report of State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2021-22 on Monday during the RPM (Review, Planning and Monitoring) meeting of states and state utilities held in New Delhi.
As per report of the SEEI 2021-22, Manipur could gain only 1.5 point from the previous year 2020-21 and thus figured in the 4th group out of the four groups categorised in the report.
States and Union Territories gaining more than 60 out of 100 points are put in the first category as front-runner while those gaining 50-60 points are categorised as achiever, 30-49.5 points as contender.
States and Union Territories gaining upto 30 points are put in the 4th category as aspirant.
Manipur got only 8 out of the total 100 points and thus figured in the aspirant category.
Out of the seven sectors divided in the report, Manipur got only 3.5 out of 10 points in municipal services sector and only 1 point out of 16 points in the transport sector.
Out of the total 12 points in cross-sector, Manipur received only 3 points and no point in the remaining sectors namely agricul ture, discom, industry and building.
The 8 points that Manipur got in SEEI 2021-22 are only 1.5 points gained from SEEI 2020-21 and the gain percentage of 23.1 only.
The report said that five states namely Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan and Telangana are in the front runner category while Assam, Haryana, Maharashtra and Punjab are in the achiever category.
Further, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Chandigarh are the top-performing states in their respective state groups.
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh showed the most improvement since the last index.
The index developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, in association with Alliance for an Energy-Efficient Economy (AEEE) assesses the annual progress of states and UTs in energy efficiency implementation for FY 2020-21 and 2021-22.SEEI 2021-22 has an updated framework of 50 indicators aligned with national priorities.
Programme-specific indicators have been included this year to track outcomes and impacts of state-level energy efficiency initiatives.
The index is being designed to help track progress on state goals for energy savings and reduction in emission intensity.
