Imphal, April 10 2023:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has brought up findings of as many as 1,33,553 duplicate voters with similar photos in all the 60 assembly constituencies of the state, and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur with request for verifying and deleting the duplicate voters.
An MPCC team led by its Legal Department chairman Sanou-jam Shyamcharan went to the office of the CEO at Lamphel-pat on Monday morning and submitted the memorandum through Joint CEO Ramananda Nongmeikapam.
Interacting with the media after submitting the memorandum, Shyamcharan termed as unfortunate that such huge number of duplicate voters have been enrolled in the electoral rolls.
Having 1.33 lakh duplicate voters out of around 20 lakh voters is a serious issue and it could not be overlooked as oversight.
It is obvious that it is result of a deliberate act.
There is no possibility of free and fair elections in such situation.
In the memorandum, MPCC urged the CEO Manipur to verify and delete the duplicate electors under Rule 26 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, he said.
Providing a detailed information on the duplicate voters, whose photos are same, he informed that number of duplicate voters found in different districts are 6149 in Imphal East, 5603 in Imphal West, 2643 in Bishnupur, 5059 in Thoubal, 276 in Jiribam, 14,432 in Chandel, 12,031 in Ukhrul, 8222 in Kangpokpi, 40,951 ip Senapati, 14,034 in Tamenglong and 24,159 in Churachandpur.
