PG medical students dispersed for residency prog

Health & IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh flagged off a district residency programme for the postgraduate medical students of the state from the Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat on Monday.
The postgraduate medical residents will be dispersed to different district hospitals and deliver three-month residential service on rotational basis as part of their curriculum.
The 48 postgraduate medical students, who are from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Poro-mpat, will be attached to district and sub-divisional hospitals in Chandel, Churachandpur, Sen-apati, Tamenglong, Thoubal and Ukhrul districts as well as Moreh during the period.
Wishing the students before their departure from Medical Directorate office, minister Dr Ranjan said that such programme has been made mandatory by the National Medical Council (NMC) and it also signifies the responsibility of a postgraduate resident.
He further said that being medical professionals, one should learn the medical protocols for sure.
The motto of medical profession is to serve the people with sincerity and compassion.
So, one should deliver good service to the people, he exhorted the students.
Stating that it is the goal of the central and the state governments to provide efficient health care facilities to all without any discrimination, Dr Ranjan expressed confidence that the programme would greatly benefit the health care sector at the grassroots level.
He urged for concerted efforts in fulfilling this goal, while wishing the postgraduate students to stay well at their respective designated locations.
Presided over by additional chief secretary (health) V Vumlunmang, the flag-off ceremony was also attended by Health Services director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang as guest of honour.
Officials and staff of the Directorate, RIMS & JNIMS and others were also present on the occasion.
Later, a ministerial team inspected the new construction work going on at the health directorate office and its surrounding area.
