Scheme workers appeal

Scheme workers from different parts of the country staged a protest at Jantar Mantar on March 28 and raised a number of demands to the Government of India for the welfare of scheme workers.
A press meet was held today at Manipur Press Club in connection with the above.
Addressing media persons during the press meet, Anganwadi Workers' and Helpers' Union Manipur General Secretary, K Sharla said that as a part of the agitation, representatives of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) met with Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister for Women and Child Development and discussed about the various issues faced by the scheme workers of the country.
She continued that during the meeting, the AITUC representatives raised demands including distribution of android mobile phones to Anganwadi workers, to upgrade Mini-Anganwadi centres to full fledged Anganwadi centres, to set the retirement age of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers as 65 years and to develop Poshan Tracker App in respective native or State languages.
Further it was urged to fill the vacant posts of Anganwadi Helpers and Supervisors, to raise the honorarium of Anganwadi Worker and Helpers as per the current trend and to include the Anganwadi workers under Government Contributory Pension Scheme, she added.
She further informed that Union Minister for Women and Child Development gave assurance that the demands and issues of the scheme workers will be addressed and fulfilled.
