Kakching Khunou reservoirs found leaked at 20 points

The water reservoir of the newly constructed Augmentation of Kakching Khunou water supply scheme was found leaked at 20 different points during an inspection visit by a team led by MLA K Ranjit on Monday.
The MLA made the visit after locals of Kakching Khunou, who had on Sunday inspected the completed work of the scheme and detected leakages at 20 different points of two reservoirs, complained to MAL K Ranjit.
The MLA along with PHED chief en gineer Shangeiphao Vashumwo, Keystone Infra Private Limited engineer Y Dumbra and other officials of the department in -spected the water supply scheme.
The Scheme has been taken up with funding of Rs 9.12 crore from New Development Bank and the water reservoirs are being constructed atop Tonuma hill in Kakching Khunou Lamkhai.
The construction works are being taken Up Keystone Infra Private Limited under PHED Manipur.
Speaking to reporters, MLA K Ranjit informed that various water supply schemes are be ing taken up in Sugnu assembly constituency to provide potable water to the people and among Kakching Khunou water supply schemes have been taken up as the two places fall under municipal areas.
He further informed that people of Kakching Khunou were informed that the water supply scheme would be made operational very soon.
However, of the three reservoirs completed, two of them were tested wherein leakages were detected at 20 different points.
Under such a condition, it cannot be guaranteed that the third reservoir would be safe,' he opined.
Leakages in one or two points can be accepted as human error faults detected at 20 different points is sheer negligence on the part of the work agency, the MLA said, while adding that the reservoirs need to be reconstructed.
He also maintained that pro viding multiple projects to Keystone Infra Private limited is one of the reasons for poor execution, and pointed out the need for al lotting contract works to local contractors.
PHED chief engineer Shangeiphao Vashumwo and Keystone Infra Private Limited engineer Y Dumbra also assured of repairing the leaked water res -ervoirs at the earliest possible.
