Implementation of NRC to be discussed

A one-day consultation and discussion on the topic "Implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur" is set to be held at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound on April 12 .
The discussion session will witness the participation of representatives of numerous groups, CSOs and student bodies.
This was informed by Ningthoujam Dhanakumar, president, Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) during a press conference held at MSF Head Office located at Kwakeithel today.
The press conference was jointly conducted by six student organisations.
Speaking to media persons, the SUK president elaborated that the discussion will also be attended by leaders of different ethnic groups as well as University Professors and other eminent personalities.
He then mentioned the various agitations launched by the six student organisations demanding implemen- tation of NRC in Manipur.
Among these, he mentioned that the student bodies in association with ANSAM had submitted a memorandum to this effect to the Union Home Minister.
Aside from this, a mass rally was staged in collaboration with the vendors of Ema Keithel, recalled the student leader.
"The one-day consultation and discussion on implementation of NRC is part of the movement spearheaded by the six student organisations to safeguard the indigenous populace from the threats posed by illegal immigrants hailing from neighbouring countries", he asserted.
He further claimed that illegal immigrants had settled in hill areas and encroached upon forest lands and indulged in harmful activities like deforestation, among others.
Ningthoujam Dhana-kumar asserted that the student bodies will continue their movement calling for implementation of NRC in the State to save the indigenous community.
Today's press conference was also attended by representatives of the six student organisations.
