Imphal, April 10 2023:
The Konsakhul Village Authority has strongly condemned the demand allegedly made by Leilon Vaiphei that the former should tender an apology else the road leading to Konsakhul would be blocked.
Speaking to media persons today, Konsakhul Village Authority Chairman D Adam Liangmai said that the Leilon Vaiphei's demand is an open invitation for a graver conflict between different communities.
The Liangmai community settled in the Konsakhul area since time immemorial and Leilon Vaiphei was set up in the Liangmai area much later.
However, the Leilon Vaiphei villagers have been harassing Konsakhul villages every now and then and the harassment has now crossed the limit of tolerance, Adam Liangmai said.
The road leading to Leimakhong is the most important road for Konsakhul to go to the valley but it passes through Leilon Vaiphei village.
There have been many cases of Leilon Vaiphei villagers assaulting, looting and raping Konsakhul villagers along the road, he alleged.
In a bid to drive away the Konsakhul villagers, they even torched many houses in the past, the Konsakhul Village Authority Chairman alleged.
All these criminal and inhuman activities were pardoned by Konsakhul villagers in the spirit of Christianity.
Taking advantage of the benevolent and forgiving nature of the Konsakhul villagers, the Leilon Vaiphei villagers have only intensified the acts of violence and harassment.
Recently, two Konsakhul villagers were detained, assaulted and their scooty was set ablaze, he said.
Even as the Konsakhul villagers have been seeking justice for these criminal acts, the Leilon Vaiphei dared to incriminate Konsakhul villagers for killing Sandang in order to cover up their criminal acts, Adam Liangmai said.
Although Leilon Vaiphei was set up after pleading with the forefathers of Konsakhul to set up the village, they are now acting as if they are the real owner of the area.
They have even gone to the extent of demanding an apology from the Konsakhul villagers saying that the road leading to the valley would be blocked if no apology is forthcoming, he decried.
Seeking immediate intervention into the matter, the Konsakhul Village Authority Chairman said that they would fight back in befitting manner if Leilon Vaiphei villagers pose hurdles to the movement of Konsakhul villagers on the particular road.
He said that they would take help of the law to take back the land currently occupied by new settlers.
