5th KIYC: Manipur claim four more medals including one gold

Imphal, February 09 2023:
Manipur clinched their fifth gold medal on Thursday as the state collected four more medals across fencing, weightlifting and judo on the 11th day of the 5th Khelo India Youth Games.
The day's competition yielded one gold, two silver and one bronze medals for Manipur.
In fencing, the state quartet of S Hemash Singh, K Abhi-nash, Kh Rajiv Singh and Kh Yaiphaba Singh outdid Tamil Nadu's team in the final of the boys' foil team event to win the gold medal.
Madhya Pradesh and Haryana shared the third place.
On the other hand, the girls' team of P Ambika, Nency Ningthoujam and P Babydaina finished third in the girls' sabre team contest to add a bronze medal to their tally.
Following in their Thursday's performances, the state fencers have now won six medals (2 gold, 1 silver & 3 bronze).
In judo, Laishram Monalisa lost out to Tanistha Tokas of Delhi in their -52kg summit clash to settle for the silver medal.
Manipur's other silver medal came courtesy of weightlifter S Chaoba Chanu who secured her podium finish after lifting a total of 176kg.The state athletes have so far collected 21 medals that include five gold, eight silver and eight bronze.
