Moirang, February 09 2023:
Even though border fencing along Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district was said to be stalled because of disputes regarding the alignment of boundary pillars, the BRO has been carrying on the border fencing work in full swing.
A team of Peace Committee Kangleipak Manipur (PECKAM) led by its president Kh Rajesh Meitei today visited the international boundary to paint border pillar numbers 80/11sp, 80/16sp and 80/17sp.There were media reports that the border fencing work had been suspended on account of boundary dispute between the two countries but on ground BRO has been actively engaged in the border fencing work, Kh Rajesh told media persons who accompanied the team.

Another team of PECKAM went to the international boundary on January 4 and they painted border pillar nos 80 and 81 .
At that time, BP 80 and 81 were on the Indian (Kwatha Khunou) side of the international boundary.
The BRO had already initiated due preparation to resume the border fencing work by the first week of January, Rajesh said.
At that time, there was no border fence between Kwatha Khunou and Jangnoi (BP No 80/16sp and BP No 80/17sp) .
Many stretches which were seen unfenced during the January 4 visit were found fenced today.
The border fence has put many border pillars deep inside Myanmar territory, he said.
He then urged both the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to come out with a convincing clarification regarding the people's nagging suspicion that Manipur has lost substantial area because of the border fencing.
He pointed out that loss of Manipur's territory is a loss for India too.
Some BRO officials reportedly told the visiting PECKAM team that around 350 labourers are currently engaged in the border fencing work.
The PECKAM president warned that unwanted incidents may erupt in the State if the Government was deliberately concealing the border fencing work from the people of Manipur.
