Imphal, February 09 2023:
While two men have been convicted in connection with an abduction case, one has been acquitted.
Session Judge, Thoubal Binny Ngangom announced the judgement today after it was kept reserved after hearing the submissions of Special PP A Sushila and the defence counsel of the accused on January 23 .
According to the case dossier, Akoijam Zilla (46) s/o Ak Ibotombi of Kiyam Siphai Amureijam Leikai, Sanasam Binoy alias Inee (46) s/o Bede of Sabaltongba Mayai Leikai and Yumnam Chandra (45) s/o Yaima of Haokha Makha Leikai allegedly tried to abduct a woman on September 6, 2001 .
The victim lodged a complaint on the same day stating that she was abducted at around 11 am by the three men using an Ambassador car which was driven by Yumnam Chandra while she was standing at Thoubal Wangmataba Bus parking with an intention to force her to marry Ak Zilla against her will.
She was forcibly thrown inside the car and she sustained injuries on her head.
Nonetheless, she screamed for help.
On seeing and hearing her scream, people present in the nearby area came to her rescue and they caught Ak Zilla and Yumnam Chandra on the spot.
Sanasam Binoy later surrendered to police.
Subsequently, a case was registered against them.
During the hearing of the case, Special PP A Sushila argued that prosecution has been able to substantiate the charges framed against the three men beyond any reasonable doubt and hence they are liable to be convicted.
After hearing the Special PP as well as the defence counsels, the Court convicted Ak Zilla and S Binoy and fixed February 13 for sentence hearing.
The convicts who were out on bail in connection with the case were present during the announcement of the judgment order.
Soon after the judgment was announced, they were sent to judicial custody.
