Ranji Trophy: Manipur reach maiden plate group final, qualify for elite group

Needing 299 runs to win on the fourth day, Manipur pulled off a memorable two-wicket triumph against Sikkim in their plate group semifinal match in the Ranji Trophy on Friday at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat (Gujarat).
Manipur's historic feat sees them qualify for the elite group for the 2023-24 season as they are now just a win away from securing a maiden plate group title.
The state squad will square off against Bihar in the final.
Manipur wrapped up the victory with their second innings score of 340 for 8 against Sikkim's 273 (all out).
Sikkim had a first-innings lead of 133, after posting 299 (all out), over Manipur who were dismissed for 166.The state squad's semifinal victory was set up by their quartet of Bashir Rahman (75), Bikash Singh (64), Langlonyamba Meitankeishangbam (52) and Ahmed Shah (43 not out), with helpful contributions from P Prafullomani (34), Ronald (23) and Priyojit K (16).In the second innings, six of Manipur's wickets fell to Sumit Singh (56, 2/25, 168 & 6/60), who was adjudged the player of the match.
Sumit's scalps included Langlonyamba, Bashir Rahman, P Prafullomani, Priyojit K, Jotin Pheiroijam and Kishan Singha.
The plate final match between Manipur and Bihar will take place from January 25-29 at Moin Ul Haq Stadium, Patna, Bihar.
