Role of teachers noted

Works and Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam has underscored the important role of teachers in educating and stimulating the minds of students.
He was speaking at the 35th foundation day celebration of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok held at the campus of the school today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the ceremony, Govindas Konthoujam spoke about the significant roles played by teachers and schools in a student's life.
He also touched upon the importance of maintaining good character.
Addressing the gathering as the functional president, Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh stated that the problems of inadequate school infrastructure and shortage of teachers pose a big obstacle in developing the education sector in Manipur.
"Among the various developmental efforts undertaken by the State, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has prioritized the development of the education sector", the Education Minister maintained.
Efforts are currently underway to improve the education sector as the young students of today will be the pillars of the State in the future, he opined.
Thounaojam Basanta further asserted that for the first time the State Government will select 100 students this year to shape their career and attempt to produce Nobel prize winners from among the 100 students within the next 5/10/15/20 years.
The BJP Government has also launched the School Faghathansi Mission across valley and hill districts to address the problems of inadequate school infrastructure and shortage of teachers, he said.
In this regard, Thounaojam Basanta added that the State currently has only 10,000 teachers despite the required number -of teachers standing at 17,000.With around 700 teachers retiring every year, schools need 7,000 more teachers, he shared.
In many cases, no new teachers have been appointed to replace the retired teachers, he claimed.
He also commented on the role of private schools in moulding students and urged students to do their part and maintain discipline and good behaviour.
Other dignitaries present at the 35th foundation day celebration of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School include Usham Deben, MLA, Wabagai Constituency and Chairman, Manipur Pollution Control Board; Ch Biren, Secretary, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM); Dr Professor RK Lenin of Department of Psychiatry, RIMS and Khundrakpam Menjor Mangang, founder chairman, KM Blooming Higher Secondary School.
As a part of the celebration, simple gifts were presented to founding members of the school, outstanding students, teachers, non-teaching staff and van drivers/owners.
