Police tighten security ahead of R-Day

Imphal, January 20 2023:
The Manipur Police Department is continuing to tighten security across the state ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.
According to reports, a team of Imphal West district police commandos carried out search operation in Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak area from 6 am to 7.30 am Friday.
In all, 90 houses were searched and 180 people including 5 UGs out on bail verified.
Another team carried out search operation in Ngari Galli, Bora Galli and Kasturi areas from 8am to 8.40 am.
Altogether 120 people were verified, out of which 14 without identification papers were handed over to City PS and later released after proper verification.
A similar search operation was carried out in areas of Nagamapal Naga Nala and Punsi Keithel from 3.15 pm to 3.45 pm on Friday, wherein 170 people were verified.
Of these, 8 people including 1 UG out on bail were handed over to City PS and later, released following proper verification.
Meanwhile, a team of Thoubal police commandos conducted search operation at Tentha Khongbal under Khongjom PS around 5.30 am on Friday.
Around 90 houses were searched and 380 people verified.
A team of Imphal East police commandos also carried out a verification drive of former insurgents out on bail on Friday.
The drive was conducted in the areas of Khurai Sajor Leikai, Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, Khurai Laishram Leikai, Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Khurai Thangjam Leikai and Khongman.
Houses of 29 former insurgents were searched during the operation, the report conveyed.
