The 11th Kanglei M ega Sports Festival, which will continue till March 22, commenced from Thursday with lighting of torch from Kangla followed by a rally till Mapal Kangjeibung, the main venue of the festival.
Speaking at the opening function of the festival which is being organised by Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) as chief guest, JNIMS director Prof L Deben pointed out that health and sports have strong connection with education.
Organising a sports festival during Yaoshang (holi) festival by KSA to steer the youth away from indulging in spraying colours on each other and other wasteful activities and encourage them to take up sports is very praiseworthy.
If other organisations also follow suit, then the state will move towards the right direction, he added.
Prof L Deben also assured of doing his best for the welfare of students.
In his presidential address, KSA president Sukham Bidyananda extended his gratitude to all who have supported the Association in organising the sports festival and said that it will work to expand the scope of the festival further in future.
The programme was also attended by MU registrar Prof W Chandbabu as guest of honour.
On the first day of the festival, an exhibition football match was played between CSO and Maniwood FC.
