Ukhrul, March 17 2022:
Joining the chorus for giving cabinet berth, Raphei Wungnao (RW), the village chiefs' body of Ukhrul district's Raphei region has urged the BJP which has returned to power in the state for the second time, to allocate ministerial berth to the MLA elected from the long neglected Chingai assembly constituency in the new government.
In a statement, RW chairman Somi Kasomwo and secretary K Yangmi stated that the region has been reeling under prolonged negligence meted out by successive state governments in respect of allocation of ministerial seat share.
"We, therefore, urge the BJP which has come back to power for the second time in the state, to do what is just and not fall prey to tempting lobbying as the final countdown for the formation of government climaxes," it pleaded.
"The ball now is in the court of BJP leaders," it continued, while exuding hope that BJP led government would listen to the pulse of the people here.
"For the record, Chingai AC has been deprived of cabinet berth since the time of late Somi A Shimray who held the agriculture portfolio for a term in the early 90s," the statement said.
Recalling that Phungyar AC and Ukhrul AC had produced two Tangkhul chief ministers namely, Rishang Keishing and Yangmaso Shaiza, the chiefs' body expressed hope that the long-cherished dream of the people of Chingai AC would be translated into reality by including the incumbent MLA of the region in the new cabinet.
While congratulating BJP on securing 32 seats in the just concluded Assembly Election, the body also extended its full co-operation to the party for effective governance in Manipur.
The chiefs' body noted that addressing the genuine woes of the community would go a long way towards cementing holistic relationship among the different communities of the state.
"The real test of BJP-led government is being keenly watched, and without an iota of doubt, we believe that justice will be delivered without ifs and buts this time around, " the statement added.
