Imphal, March 17 2022:
With the arrival of the festival of Yaoshang, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol has urged parents to supervise their children accordingly to ensure that they do not indulge in excessive behaviour.
In a statement, CADA opined that all religious and cultural events in the state are always accompanied with the consumption of prohibited substances.
CADA also pointed out the negative aspects of 'thabal chongba' and 'sel khaiba' among others.
As such, the organisation appealed to parents to pay close attention to their wards to prevent them from getting involved in morally questionable acts in the name of celebrating Yaoshang.
Further, CADA praised the culture of organising sports meets during Yaoshang.
The statement also stressed upon the need to evolve these sports meets from an entertainment event to an event with a long term vision.
Many athletes in the state had their start through participating in Yaoshang sports, the statement added.
However, CADA also pointed out the disturbance that these sporting events cause by the use of loudspeakers throughout the day and added that this should be avoided.
Lastly, judging by the current state of society, CADA questioned if the festival of Yaoshang helps in conserving the cultural identity of the community or impacts it negatively.
