Sericulture Krishi Mela / exhibition held

Imphal, March 17 2022:
Under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles, Regional Sericulture Research Station, Central Silk Board organised a Sericulture Krishi Mela cum Exhibition at the office of its Research Centre at Mantripukhri on Wednesday.
In all, 41 stalls were opened in the exhibition.
The exhibition was attended by Department of Sericulture director L Geetchandra; Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Central Silk Board director Dr K Satyanarayana and Central Muga Eri Research and Training Institute, Central Silk Board director Dr KM Vijaya Kumari as presidium members.
During the exhibition, 3 hardworking farmers were felicitated with presentation of simple gifts.
Speaking on the occasion, director L Geetchandra stressed the need for the department scientists to venture out into the field and work with the farmers to ensure effective delivery of various schemes.
The department will extend all possible assistance in this regard, he assured, while pointing out the need for developing a strong work culture and helping in further development of the department.
Geetchandra also said that despite having well qualified scientists and good instruments, all will be lost if peasants who produce silk fail to work sincerely.
The department will support and help extensively the peasants who rear silkworms for producing silk, he assured.
Stressing the need for minutely discussing the ways for growing mulberry trees, which are the foods for silkworms, and rearing of the worms, Geetchandra said that the introduction of machine has made it easier to reel silk.
Enhancing silk handloom products will not only improve the economy of peasants and weavers but also the economy of the state as a whole, he said.
Prizes were awarded to three sericulture workers as encouragement for their sincere works.
A booklet was also released during the function.
