Interim bail for N Samarjit

The Special Judge NIA Manipur has granted interim bail to self proclaimed "external affairs and defence minister of Manipur State Council and former chairman of Salai Group of Companies Narengbam Samarjit on health ground, today.
A case was registered by NIA against N Samarjit and Yambem Biren s/o (L) Thambalngou of Tera Khongsangbi Leimaram Leikai in connection with an announcement for separating the State of Manipur from India and forming Manipur State Council on October 29, 2019 in a press conference held at London.
The bail order was kept reserved after the hearing of the application filed by Narengbam Samarjit (48), s/o (L) Jugindro of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai yesterday.
As per the bail application, Narengbam Samarjit is suffering from hypertension, heart problem, diabetes mellitus type 2, right kidney stone, kidney and mental problems.
During the proceedings of the case, a medical report of the accused was called from the Superintendent of Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
The Court received the health status report of the accused on January 1, 2022. In the said report, the accused was reported to be suffering from certain ailments.
Counsel of Samarjit submitted that the accused requires intensive medical care outside the facilities of the jail and JNIMS and prayed for his bail.
The counsel also submitted that the accused will abide by conditions imposed by the Court.
On the other hand, Special PP (NIA) argued that the accused had applied for bail twice earlier too and the first was dismissed on September 22, 2021 while the second application was dismissed on December 31, 2021 .
The Special PP further argued that the Medical Officer, being a general medical practitioner, is not competent to provide expert opinion in relation to the diseases of the accused and the medical report submitted is not based on any medical test enclosed with the report.
The Court received the report of the Special State Medical Board and on perusal of the case record found that the accused has certain ailments such as type 2 diabetes mellitus with peripheral neuropathy, hypertension, chronic hepatitis-C infection, nephrolithiasis, acute kidney problems and bipolar affective disorder among others.
The Court after hearing both parties and on perusal of the case record granted interim bail to the accused till July 30 to facilitate his medical treatment, on the execution of a PR bond of Rs 2,00,000 .
Furthermore, the accused has been directed to submit a comprehensive medical report to the Court, regarding his medical treatments on the last working day of every month starting March, 2022 .
