Imphal, March 17 2022:
During the height of Manipuri celluloid era, film enthusiast N Ibohal tried to produce a 55mm black and white celluloid film, titled "Ningol" in the early part of 1980 .
Unfortunately, after having filmed majority of the plot, it was discovered that none of the images were captured and as such, the film was shelved, much to the disappointment of the crew involved.
However, a remake of the incomplete film, "Ningol", produced by H Risikesh and directed by L Surjakanta Sharma held its press show at MSFDS, Palace Gate here on Thursday.
Addressing the media regarding the film, Surjakanta informed that the original celluloid version of the film could not be produced as the negatives did not capture any images due to a technical defect.
The songs of the film, however, were produced for gramophone records.
The song titles included "Bidaigi Kallaba Cheina", "Bombay Mithai", "Punshi Lambida Lammuknare", and "Khoimu Eenba Leirang Thirusi".
The remake of the film follows the same storyline and the shooting first began in 2013 .
However, as the numbers of important cast members were many, it took some time to shoot the entire film.
Nonetheless, the joy of presenting the film to the public after being shelved for 40 years made up for the time taken, he added.
Surjakanta then informed that the 3 songs used in the film "Bombay Mithai", "Punshi Lambida Lammuknare", and "Khoimu Eenba Leirang Thirusi", are the original soundtracks.
The final editing of the film has been almost completed and it would be presented to the public within this month.
The cast of the new "Ningol" includes Sadananda, Gokul, Kaiku, Sunny, Bala, Kripalakshmi, Nongthangnganbi, Suniti, Idhou, Loken and Romita.
